The communication gaps which happens "by default" in office but becomes hard in a remote environment like - Greeting people or conversations over lunch.
These communication pieces are not necessary for the business from productivity standpoint but it sure is extremely important for the mental health of their employees and it's culture. (And hence for productivity).
There are ways in which you'll have to consciously make efforts to over communicate and always add context while working remote. Let's consider how this goes:
If you're using slack, we recommend you to have a #meet-n-greet channel for everyone. The purpose of this would be to randomly select 3-4 people everyday and schedule a call for them at a fixed time during day. This can be over lunch or any other time.
You can use an app called Donut
If you're using Slack or any other similar collaboration tool, you should build a habit of talking over public channels instead of private. This helps your colleagues know about mistakes you made or places where they might be able to help.
This extra context is sometimes extremely necessary because this allows you to have more context about what's happening around the company and not just about what you're working on.
We also highly recommend to not use private channels unless necessary. Though it's important to keep your workplace organized. Here are some pro tips to use for slack:
